The Fury's Stock Page

The Fury has everything a stockman wants in a dog: heart, biddability, hits heads and heels, strong gather instinct, hardy build. She's a little dog, so she needs to show the cattle who's boss, and has no problem doing it. She's very, very gentle on fowl, however.

Works off commands, as well as independently; she is a marvelous chore dog, as well. I used her to hold lambs during castration, to bring errant sheep off brush-covered hills, and to push nearly 100-head from arena to arena. She figures out the game and doesn't need much encouragement to find a "better way."

She's a tough dog to learn stock sense and handling on as she is fast, intense, and very instinctive, but she keeps on trying despite my mistakes. I did a good job of screwing her up and it's a testament that she works as well as she does to this day. Lesser dogs would have given up.

We've finally set foot into the trial arena and she did well, despite her handler. Took home ASC of Idaho's Most Promising Started Aussie award and a first in cattle! Not bad for our first trial.

We didn't need a contract that guaranteed her to work. Tracey put her on sheep at 7 weeks of age and she had the sense.
